Thermal power plants are mainly for heat supply, hot steam or hot water is the main product of thermal power plants, and electricity is a by-product. Ordinary fossil-fuel power station mainly generate electricity, supplemented by heat supply. This is the biggest difference between the two.


The thermal power plant converts the chemical energy of the fuel into electrical energy and provides heat energy to the outside world, giving priority to ensuring heat supply, "heat determines electricity", that is, cogeneration of heat and power. The  fossil-fuel power station only converts the chemical energy of the fuel into electrical energy, and does not supply external heat


A  fossil-fuel power station is a factory that uses coal, oil, and natural gas as fuel to produce electric energy. Its basic production process is: the fuel is burned in a boiler to heat water to make steam, and the chemical energy of the fuel is converted into heat. The steam pressure The steam turbine is driven to rotate, and the heat energy is converted into mechanical energy, and then the steam turbine drives the generator to rotate, which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy, and finally transmits the electricity.


The thermal power plant uses coal as fuel, and the coal is burned in the boiler to heat the water in the boiler to generate steam, and then the steam with a certain temperature and pressure from the boiler enters the steam turbine through the main steam valve and the regulating steam valve, and flows through the steam turbine in turn. A series of ring-mounted nozzle cascades and moving blade cascades expand to do work, convert their thermal energy into mechanical energy that drives the turbine rotor to rotate, and drive the generator to generate electricity through the coupling. The steam after expansion work is discharged from the exhaust part of the steam turbine, and the exhaust steam is condensed into water in the condenser, then sent to the heater, and sent to the boiler through the feed water to be heated into steam, and so on. That is, the thermal energy of the steam is first converted into kinetic energy in the nozzle grid, and then this part of the kinetic energy is converted into mechanical energy in the moving blade grid. The working principle is an energy conversion process, that is, thermal energy-kinetic energy-mechanical energy-electrical energy. Eventually the electricity will be sent out.
